The Dales Way: Ilkley to Bowness-on-Windermere

(thanks to the Dales Way Association for the use of this neat map)

The Dales Way is one of Britain’s best loved, most written about and most beautiful long distance walks. It links urban West Yorkshire with the lake District National Park. The 80 mile route starts from Ilkley and ends at Bowness-on-Windermere. Along the way it passes through three of Yorkshire’s main dales, Wharfedale, Dentdale and Lunesdale.

I will be walking it between June 10th and the 16th 2013 with my friend Bob, with whom I have walked countless miles over our 30 plus years friendship (see the section in this blog on The way of St James) and with several other friends of ours for various parts of the route.

Bob has booked all our accommodation and we are having the luxury of baggage transfer from The Sherpa Van Project.

This may end up being a retospective blog or an on-the-hoof one. With the Way of St James I blogged every day but it was quite a major task to do so using only my iphone and cost me one of my big treats about walking- the pre dinner snooze. So I am making no promises here about how or when my account of this trek will be delivered.
